Those guys made records that combined being a singer/songwriter with distinctly silly ideas, which always gives their music a pleasant air of tentative playfulness. The likes of Harry Nilsson and Loudon Wainwright, I’d have to think of off-the-cuff. On this record, Mac DeMarco sounds like a modern day version of the quirky individualists that originated in the States in the Seventies. But even in that, Mac Demarco is in exquisite company of not only Steely Dan and Elvis Costello, but – there we go – naturally that of George Harrison. As, out of all things, the title track demonstrates: if a basic melodic idea is lacking, which usually establishes meaning, then the remaining components – even if they display highly refined musicianship – will always come across somewhat unfocused and mannered.

However, the fascination is not a hundred percent perfect. You can indulge in them and surrender to them in their airy lavish tenderness. The listener is invited to follow Demarco’s chords like the words of stories. Those however, who are prone to listening closely and are appreciative of the hidden sensations of refined harmonies, those will for instance be able to acknowledge the surprising double dominant seventh chord in the chorus of “The Way You’d Love Her”, appreciating its adventurous nature that almost resembles a harrowing noise or screaming. Those who prefer a harsher style may think to themselves “what kind of soft pop crap is that supposed to be?” and might be bored to death. Demarco’s latest effort is highly reminiscent of the Beatles, and much like in particular the compositions by their most handsome silent member, “Another One” wants to have nothing, but a pleasant, curative, soothing effect on its listeners.

Those two outstanding musicians have always shared a prominence that rivals that of the vocals, a sense of virtuosity and creativity in the handling of their guitars that is borderline nutty. Mac Demarco would at least already make a promising candidate for Harrison’s position. In addition, the song itself is performed three times, once by a mariachi band serenading the characters (in Spanish), once by Jose Hernandez and Nydia, as background music (again in Spanish), and once by Bryan Adams during the closing credits. When at the beginning of the Nineties rumours surfaced that the Beatles were to reunite (I believe Elvis Costello would have served as fourth band member), George Harrison declared that the Beatles were not happening again as long as John Lennon was dead.īut maybe now that Harrison is also not alive anymore there might be a chance for that to happen after all. The film and soundtrack feature the original Bryan Adams song "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?" the lyrics incorporate quotes from Depp's character, and the melody is used as a musical motif throughout the film.
ANOTHER ONE MAC DEMARCO PIANO SHEET MUSIC MOVIE
The movie is based on two different sources the modern-day story is based on director/screenwriter Jeremy Leven's short story Don Juan DeMarco and the Centerfold (the movie's original title before the studio changed it shortly before release), while the flashbacks depicting DeMarco's back-story are based on the more familiar legend of Don Juan, especially as told by Lord Byron in his version of the legend. Mickler himself, who rekindles the romance in his complacent marriage. But the psychiatric sessions have an unexpected effect on the psychiatric staff, some of whom find themselves inspired by DeMarco's delusion the most profoundly affected is Dr. Jack Mickler, to cure him of his apparent delusion. Clad in a cape and domino mask, DeMarco undergoes psychiatric treatment with Marlon Brando's character, Dr. DeMarco, a man who believes himself to be Don Juan, the greatest lover in the world.
